Training takes place from 8.00pm-10:00pm on Wednesday nights, and runs from the middle of July (for pre-season training) until mid May. We meet at 7:45 so that each team can de-brief from the matches the previous weekend. Please make an effort to be at training on time and ready to play so that we can make the best use of team discussions and court time.
The training committee works very hard to provide a range of high quality training sessions. We expect players to make a regular commitment to training both for your own development, to support your club-mates and to allow for trying combinations for teams. In the event of having a high number of players available for matches, we may take training attendance into consideration when selecting players for the fixture.
The club is fortunate enough to have a semi-regular coach (a current Loughborourgh Lightning Super League player) who does take the majority of our training sessions. But because of her own playing commitments she is not always available and on those occasions training sessions are taken by players who have expressed an interest in coaching or who have coaching qualifications. We are keen to expand our coaching base, and are happy to offer opportunities to those who wish to develop their coaching skills. Please let Carley (Training Co-Ordinator) know if you are interested in being involved.
Training is also an opportunity for our developing umpires to practice and develop their skills, therefore it is essential that we have an adequate number of players at training to allow for this. Please remember to support the developing umpires as they practice, and also be prepared to pick up a whistle if necessary.
